Chappy's corner 'Politics and Religion"

Ole and Swen decided to get involved in local politics. The leader of the political party told them we need lots of names to get our guy elected so I want you guys to go to the local cemetery and start writing down names on these forms. At the cemetery Ole told Swen, “You get the names on these front rows and I will go down a section and get names there.” After one hour Ole returned and asked Swen, “How many names do you have?” Swen replied, “I have two names.” Ole shouted, “Only two names. I have two hundred names, what’s your problem?” Swen replied, “Well these tombstones by the road are covered with dirt and mud. It takes me a long time to clean them before I can read the name.” Ole replied, “Oh, just skip those front rows and go to the next set of rows.” Swen immediately stated, “Oh, no. In this country everyone gets the right to vote.”

Swen stated people have the right to vote, but sadly many don’t vote. They have the freedom not to vote. But do they realize that freedom was bought and paid for by the blood of many men and women who gave their lives to protect our freedoms. Instead of using their freedom to participate in elections or to run for political office or serve on community groups, these folks just grumble.

They grumble about dirty politics, or complain that politicians are crooks, or say “the government is corrupt.” The truth is no politician is perfect because no person is perfect; and the government is far from perfect. Nothing involving people is perfect. Schools, churches, the military and other institutions are also guilty of mistakes too. But that doesn’t excuse from participating. As God’s word states, “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.” Romans 13:1

There was only one perfect person, namely Jesus and He came not to grumble but to give His life to win for us freedom from sin, death and everlasting destruction. His sacrifice gives all who trust in Him a place in an eternal kingdom.

Jesus sacrifice also gives us a great example to follow… instead of grumbling about things, get involved, make sacrifices and don’t ask what the government or others can do for you, but what you can do for others.

Just my thoughts from this SE Corner of South Dakota!
